Cyclin Y (CCNY) is a highly conserved member of the cyclin family, serving as an essential regulatory subunit for atypical cyclin-dependent kinases. It most commonly forms complexes with CDK14 (PFTK1) and CDK16 (PCTAIRE1), mediating key transitions in the cell cycle, controlling cell division, signal transduction (notably Wnt signaling), and cytoskeletal dynamics. CCNY is implicated in diverse biological processes such as embryonic development, neuronal function, immune regulation, and autophagy. Aberrant CCNY expression has been linked to cancer progression, increased cell migration (including metastasis in lung cancer), autoimmune diseases, and neurological disorders. CCNY is emerging as both a candidate diagnostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in oncology and inflammation.
