Overview

CYCS pseudogene 17 (abbreviated as CYCSP17, also known as HCP17) is one of several non-functional genomic copies related to the human cytochrome c gene (CYCS), classified as a processed pseudogene and not an active protein-coding gene or therapeutic target[3]. CYCS pseudogene 17 is one of 49 cytochrome c pseudogenes described in the human genome as “HCP1” through “HCP49,” as cataloged in a detailed pseudogene study[3]. These pseudogenes, including HCP17, are sequences with high homology to the active cytochrome c gene, but lack functional exons and often contain disablements such as frameshifts and stop codons that prevent protein expression. Most of these pseudogenes, including CYCSP17, do not show evidence of expression in human tissues and do not encode an active protein product. They do not participate in any known biological processes or disease mechanisms and have no role as therapeutic targets, disease biomarkers, or drug-interacting proteins[3]. CYCS pseudogene 17 is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any recognized drug target. There are no known biological functions, disease associations, drug interactions, or safety concerns related to this pseudogene. The inclusion of “pseudogene” and the absence of expression or functional data confirm it is not a therapeutic target and does not warrant further consideration for pharmacological intervention[3].
