**CYCS pseudogene 25** is a processed pseudogene that originates from duplication or retrotransposition of the functional CYCS gene, which encodes cytochrome c—a critical mitochondrial electron carrier protein involved in electron transfer and apoptosis in human cells[5][2][4]. CYCSP25 does not encode functional protein and has no direct biological or pharmacological role; it reflects the evolutionary history of the cytochrome c gene family in primates. While its parent gene (CYCS) is well characterized, including roles in apoptosis and mitochondrial processes, the pseudogene itself is annotated in the human genome with aliases HC10 and HCP25, but is not a valid functional or druggable entity[5][1][4]. Processed pseudogenes are common in the human genome and typically lack the ability to produce proteins due to mutations or lack of regulatory sequences. Some pseudogenes can have regulatory effects via interactions with microRNAs or by acting as decoys for regulatory molecules; there is no documented evidence that CYCSP25 has such functions[6]. The functional CYCS gene does have disease relevance (thrombocytopenia), but CYCSP25 does not[2][5].
