Overview

CYCS pseudogene 33 (CYCSP33, also known as HCP33) is one of 49 cytochrome c pseudogenes identified in the human genome[2][3]. Pseudogenes in this family resemble the canonical cytochrome c gene (CYCS) but are rendered non-functional due to disablements such as truncations, frame shifts, stop codons, or sequence divergence[2][3]. These pseudogenes lack expression and do not encode proteins[2][3]. Their presence is the result of genomic duplication and retrotransposition events over evolutionary time, and they do not participate in cellular or physiological processes. CYCSP33 has no recognized significance as a molecular target in therapeutics, biomarker research, or disease biology[1][2][3].
