Overview

CYCS pseudogene 38 (CYCSP38), also referred to as HCP38 or HC2, is a non-functional, processed pseudogene sequence in the human genome originating from the CYCS (cytochrome c, somatic) gene[1][4][7]. Unlike the parent gene CYCS, which encodes an essential mitochondrial heme protein involved in the electron transport chain and apoptosis, CYCSP38 is not transcribed into RNA or translated into a protein, and it exhibits disablements such as frame shifts, truncations, or insertions that prevent normal expression[1][4][8]. CYCSP38 is one of a family of more than 40 cytochrome c pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome and serves no documented functional role in cellular physiology or disease. It is not considered a therapeutic target for drug development and is not implicated in human disease or used as a biomarker[4][7][8].
