Target intelligence / Profile preview
CYCS pseudogene 48 (CYCSP48, HCP48) is one of numerous processed pseudogenes of the human cytochrome c (CYCS/HCS) gene. Pseudogenes are non-functional genomic sequences derived from ancestral protein-coding genes that have lost their ability to encode functional proteins due to disabling mutations or truncations. CYCSP48 is truncated compared to the functional CYCS gene and lacks introns and coding potential. There is no evidence that this pseudogene is expressed as RNA or protein, and it plays no known biological function or disease role.
