Overview

CYCS pseudogene 7 (CYCSP7), also known as HCP7, is a processed human pseudogene with sequence homology to the functional human cytochrome c gene (CYCS). It is located in the human genome and is part of a group of nearly 50 cytochrome c-related pseudogenes distributed across multiple chromosomes. These pseudogenes lack introns and, in many cases, contain disabling mutations, truncations, or retrotransposon insertions that prevent the production of a functional protein[2][4][5]. CYCSP7 is not transcribed or translated into a protein and there is no evidence linking it to any cellular function, disease role, or drug interaction. Unlike the canonical CYCS gene—which encodes cytochrome c, a key player in mitochondrial electron transport and apoptosis—CYCSP7 does not code for an active enzyme, receptor, or transporter, and is therefore not considered a therapeutic target[2][4].
