CYLD antisense RNA 1 (CYLD-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene that is transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the protein-coding CYLD gene. As a natural antisense transcript, CYLD-AS1 can modulate the expression of CYLD, which encodes a deubiquitinase enzyme and a tumor suppressor implicated in the regulation of NF-κB signaling and cell cycle control[7][8]. CYLD-AS1 expression is upregulated in certain conditions, such as oxidative stress in retinal pigment epithelial cells, where its depletion can lead to increased cell proliferation and changes in mitochondrial dynamics, suggesting a role in tissue homeostasis and disease processes, such as age-related macular degeneration[8]. Antisense lncRNAs like CYLD-AS1 may act through mechanisms that include RNA interference, epigenetic modification, or modulation of mRNA stability or translation, but CYLD-AS1 is not a classic druggable target at present and there are no pharmacological agents that specifically interact with it[7][8][3].
