As a non-coding RNA, it does not encode a protein but may have a regulatory role, potentially modulating the expression of the neighboring CYP51A1 gene or related pathways. There is very limited functional annotation; no direct evidence supports its use as a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs or direct disease associations beyond rare chromosomal aberrations involving this genomic locus[5]. The gene is sometimes involved in complex chromosomal rearrangements, which in rare cases are associated with disorders of speech and language, yet its direct biological function and mechanism are not well characterized in current literature[5].
