Overview

Cystatin-9-like pseudogene 1 (CST9LP1) is a human pseudogene located in the cystatin locus on chromosome 20 and related to the cystatin superfamily, which includes cysteine proteinase inhibitors. Although annotated as encoding a "putative cystatin-9-like protein," CST9LP1 is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is not believed to produce a functional protein in humans. Its sequence is similar to cystatin 9, a protein known for endopeptidase inhibitory activity, but CST9LP1 itself lacks evidence of protein expression or biological function. There is currently no evidence that CST9LP1 functions as a drug target, nor is it implicated in disease or therapeutic intervention[1][2][10][12].
