Cystatin pseudogene 2 (CSTP2)

Target
CSTP2
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Cystatin superfamily (pseudo-member; cystatin family genes and pseudogenes are grouped together in genomic analyses)
01

Overview

Cystatin pseudogene 2 (CSTP2) is classified as a pseudogene located in the human cystatin gene cluster on chromosome 20. Sequence analysis shows that CSTP2 carries a nonsense mutation in exon 1 which precludes it from producing a functional protein distinct from other functional cystatin genes. CSTP2 and related pseudogenes are non-expressed and have no known biological function or role in disease or therapy. This distinguishes CSTP2 from other type 2 cystatin family members, several of which encode secreted cysteine protease inhibitors found in saliva and other secretions.
