Overview

Cysteine and serine-rich nuclear protein 1 (CSRNP1) is a nuclear transcription factor characterized by cysteine- and serine-rich domains and a basic region. It is inducible as an immediate early gene in response to diverse external stimuli including interleukin-2, TGF-beta, and axin. CSRNP1 binds DNA at the consensus sequence 5'-AGAGTG-3' and functions as a transcriptional activator[1][5][6]. It is involved in gene regulation in inflammatory responses, neural development, cell proliferation, and apoptosis, and it may act as a tumor suppressor due to its decreased expression in several cancers[3][5]. Although CSRNP1 does not contain any previously defined structural domains, its roles span developmental biology, cancer biology, and inflammation[1][3][5]. There are currently no reported small molecule drugs or known direct inhibitors targeting CSRNP1, but its function as a transcriptional regulator and responder to signaling pathways—including Wnt/AXIN1 and TGF-beta—makes it a candidate for therapeutic exploration[3][5].
