Cysteine and serine-rich nuclear protein 3 (CSRNP3) is a nuclear protein predicted to function as a DNA-binding transcription factor with RNA polymerase II specificity and sequence-specific DNA-binding activity[1][5]. It binds the consensus sequence 5'-AGAGTG-3' and possesses transcriptional activator function, contributing to the positive regulation of apoptosis and transcription[1]. CSRNP3 is most highly expressed in the brain with lower expression in the kidney and ovary and is localized primarily in the nucleus[2]. It is part of a family of three CSRNP proteins (CSRNP1, CSRNP2, CSRNP3), all of which are nuclear and have serine- and cysteine-rich domains, with likely redundancy in function[2]. There are currently no known drugs targeting CSRNP3, no described clinical biomarkers, and no specific safety concerns associated with its targeting. Although CSRNP3 has roles in apoptosis and is associated with some neurological diseases by genetic association, its precise pathological roles and therapeutic potential remain to be clarified[1][2][5].
