Cysteine-rich C-terminal protein 1 (CRCT1), encoded by the CRCT1 gene (previously known as C1orf42 or NICE1), is a human protein of unknown function[2][3][5][7]. The gene is located on chromosome 1, and its expression has been detected in a range of tissues[4]. To date, there is no experimental evidence supporting a role for this protein as an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or signaling molecule. The most notable associations with disease are indirect: some bioinformatics and clinical databases have linked CRCT1 to rare tumor types, such as salivary gland mucoepidermoid carcinoma and esophageal adenosquamous carcinoma, but no mechanistic or functional studies have established its involvement in these diseases[3]. There are no known drugs that interact with CRCT1, and it is not currently used as a biomarker or therapeutic target. Further research is required to elucidate its molecular function, biological pathways, and potential clinical relevance.
