Cysteine-rich PDZ-binding protein pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Unprocessed pseudogene

Overview

The cysteine-rich PDZ-binding protein pseudogene (ENSG00000257323) is a noncoding DNA sequence that resembles the gene encoding cysteine-rich PDZ-binding protein (CRIPT), but it has accumulated mutations that render it nonfunctional at the protein level[5][7][9]. Like most pseudogenes, it does not produce a functional protein and thus is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other druggable target[5][7]. Some pseudogenes can act at the RNA level to modulate expression of other genes through miRNA interactions, but the functions of most pseudogenes remain unknown and are not therapeutically actionable[1][2][4]. Pseudogenes are of interest in evolutionary genomics but rarely have direct biological or clinical relevance. ENSG00000257323 is NOT a therapeutic target but a pseudogene—"gene-like" DNA disabled from producing a protein[5][7]. Any designation as a receptor, transporter, or drug target is incorrect.
