Overview

CRIP1P1 is a pseudogene located in the human genome, annotated as cysteine-rich protein 1 pseudogene 1 and abbreviated as CRIP1P1. Unlike its parent gene CRIP1, which encodes a functional zinc-finger protein involved in various cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, and cancer biology, CRIP1P1 does not encode a functional protein and is classified as non-coding. As with most pseudogenes, CRIP1P1 may represent an evolutionary relic of its parent gene, but there is no direct evidence of biological or disease-related function for this gene, nor is it considered a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes may have regulatory effects in rare cases, but CRIP1P1 is not individually implicated in such mechanisms or pathology. Accordingly, CRIP1P1 should not be confused with cysteine-rich protein 1 (CRIP1), which is an active protein-coding gene important in disease biology. If structured information is required for CRIP1 rather than CRIP1P1, note that the parent gene (CRIP1) is a zinc-finger LIM domain protein involved in cell signaling, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, immune function, and cancer, and is sometimes a therapeutic target. However, CRIP1P1 itself remains a pseudogene without defined target function.
