Cysteine rich protein 1 pseudogene 2 (CRIP1P2) is an annotated human pseudogene related by sequence similarity to the functional cysteine-rich intestinal protein 1 (CRIP1) gene, but it does not encode a functional protein product[4]. Pseudogenes such as CRIP1P2 are typically considered nonfunctional genomic elements and are not recognized as therapeutic targets. While there is emerging research suggesting that some pseudogenes may exert regulatory functions or participate in disease contexts, there is no existing evidence or annotation supporting any functional significance or druggability for CRIP1P2[2][4]. All available data classify it solely as a noncoding pseudogene. Notes: - Distinguish from CRIP1: The functional family member, cysteine-rich intestinal protein 1 (CRIP1), is a zinc-binding protein implicated in processes such as epithelial-mesenchymal transition, cell death, and tumor progression; however, these functions relate to CRIP1, not CRIP1P2[1]. - Therapeutic relevance: As a pseudogene, CRIP1P2 is not considered a receptor, enzyme, channel, or other canonical drug target. Summary: CRIP1P2 is not a functional protein or therapeutic target.
