Cysteine-rich tail protein 1 is an uncharacterized protein encoded by the CYSRT1 gene on chromosome 9. It is highly expressed in squamous epithelial tissues, especially in the stratum corneum—the outermost layer of skin—where it is believed to contribute to the formation of the cornified envelope and skin barrier[1][4][5]. The protein is part of the epidermal structure and may play a secondary role in antimicrobial defense, protecting against microbial invasion[1][4]. Its molecular function is annotated as "identical protein binding," and it has no evidence of enzymatic, receptor, transporter, ion channel, or regulator activity[4][6]. Currently, CYSRT1 has no established role in human disease, is not a recognized target for drugs, and lacks evidence of clinical or pharmacological significance. It may be of interest for basic skin biology or barrier research but is not relevant for therapeutic targeting at this time[1][2][4][6].
