Overview

Cytochrome b5 type A pseudogene 2 (CYB5AP2) is a human pseudogene, defined as a genomic DNA sequence related to the functional CYB5A gene but rendered inactive by mutation or truncation. Pseudogenes like this do not code for functional proteins, though in some cases pseudogene transcripts may exert regulatory effects on parental genes via RNA-based mechanisms, such as sponging miRNAs or producing antisense transcripts. However, there is no direct evidence that CYB5AP2 has such a function or that it is involved in any human disease or serves as a therapeutic target[1][2][3].
