Cytochrome b5 type B pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

The cytochrome b5 type B pseudogene (ENSG00000259509, LOC112268162) is a retrotransposed, non-functional genetic element in the human genome, derived from the CYB5B gene encoding cytochrome b5 type B[3]. While the functional cytochrome b5 type B protein is involved in electron transfer within mitochondrial membranes[11], this pseudogene lacks introns and is presumed to result from retroviral insertion events[3]. It does not produce functional protein, does not participate in physiological or pathological processes, and is not considered a valid therapeutic target.
