Overview

Cytochrome c, somatic pseudogene 30 (CYCSP30), also called HCP30, is one of several processed pseudogenes related to the functional cytochrome c gene (CYCS, also called HCS) in humans. Pseudogenes like CYCSP30 originate from gene duplication and retrotransposition events and contain sequence similarity to the functional gene but typically lack introns and possess sequence disablements, preventing them from encoding functional proteins. These pseudogenes are distributed across various chromosomes, and there is no evidence that CYCSP30 is transcriptionally active, functionally expressed, or involved in any regulatory role, disease mechanism, or drug interaction[1][2]. While some pseudogenes can participate in RNA-level regulation, there is no evidence supporting such a role for CYCSP30 specifically[3]. The parent gene, CYCS (cytochrome c, somatic), is a well-studied heme protein involved in electron transport and apoptosis, but these functions are not attributed to CYCSP30[2][5]. Pseudogenes may occasionally be implicated in gene regulation via non-coding RNA mechanisms, but functional relevance must be demonstrated on a case-specific basis, and this is not established for CYCSP30[3]. In summary, CYCSP30 is a processed pseudogene without demonstrated biological function, disease association, therapeutic utility, or biomarker value, and should not be considered a drug target[1][2][3].
