Overview

Cytochrome c oxidase assembly factor 5 pseudogene (ENSG00000282852) is a non-functional copied sequence of the protein-coding gene COA5, which encodes a mitochondrial protein essential for the assembly of complex IV (cytochrome c oxidase) of the respiratory chain. The pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and has no described biological activity or clinical significance as a target. The functional counterpart, COA5 (cytochrome c oxidase assembly factor 5), is critical for mitochondrial function, and mutations in COA5 can cause mitochondrial complex IV deficiency with severe clinical outcomes. However, the pseudogene itself has no proven involvement in drug interaction, disease, or therapeutic modulation.
