Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 4I1 pseudogene 2 (COX4I1P2) is a human processed nonfunctional gene segment that originated by duplication or retrotransposition of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit IV functional gene[2][5][13]. Because it lacks essential regulatory elements and coding sequence structure, it cannot produce an active protein product. While most pseudogenes are considered nonfunctional, some are occasionally transcribed and may have subtle regulatory roles at the RNA level, but there is no evidence that COX4I1P2 is implicated in human disease or drug action[5][3][9].
