Overview

Cytochrome c oxidase subunit VIa polypeptide 1 pseudogene (COX6A1P) is a processed pseudogene related to the nuclear-encoded subunit 6A1 of cytochrome c oxidase, which is the terminal enzyme complex—Complex IV—in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. Unlike its protein-coding counterpart, this pseudogene contains mutations or genomic alterations that prevent its transcription or translation into a functional protein product and thus it does not participate in normal biological or disease processes, nor is it targeted by therapeutics[1][3][5]. Key supporting details: - The pseudogene is a mutated, nonfunctional copy: "This gene represents a subunit which has been inactivated by mutation and is nonfunctional in humans"[5]. - It is not a receptor, enzyme, or other functional drug target and does not affect cellular functions directly[1][5]. - No drugs are known to interact with the gene or its (nonexistent) protein product; there are no known biomarker or safety concerns associated with it[1][3]. This gene is commonly listed in genomic and gene catalogues for completeness but does not yield a translated protein, so it is not meaningful to consider it a target for drug discovery, biomarker development, or therapeutic relevance. If you require information on the functional protein, refer to COX6A1 (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6A1)[7].
