Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6B1 pseudogene 4 (COX6B1P4) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the functional cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6B1 gene but contains mutations that prevent it from encoding a functional protein[1][2]. Pseudogenes like COX6B1P4 are generally regarded as nonfunctional relics derived from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and often lack the ability to be translated into protein. However, some pseudogenes can be transcribed into non-coding RNAs and may play regulatory roles, such as acting as molecular decoys for microRNAs (miRNA sponges) or generating regulatory short interfering RNAs[1][2][3]. These functions have been reported for a minority of pseudogenes and are generally gene-specific, with only a handful actively implicated in biological processes. There is no evidence that COX6B1P4 itself functions as a therapeutic target or is involved in specific disease processes; it is not an enzyme, receptor, transporter, or transcription factor. Being a pseudogene, it is not suitable as a drug target, and information on interacting drugs, drug action, or biomarker status is not available.
