COX6B1P5 is related by sequence to the gene encoding cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6B1—an established component of Complex IV in the mitochondrial electron transport chain—but COX6B1P5 itself does not encode functional protein[1][5]. There is no evidence that COX6B1P5 is expressed, acts as a protein, or serves as a direct therapeutic or diagnostic target. Pseudogenes like COX6B1P5 may, in some circumstances, regulate related genes at the RNA level (for example, acting as microRNA decoys or sources of regulatory RNAs)[2], but COX6B1P5 is not individually recognized for such activity and is not associated with any diseases, drugs, or biomarker applications[5][3]. Therefore, COX6B1P5 is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical therapeutic target. Its main scientific significance is as a reference in genome annotation or evolutionary/genomic studies.
