Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6B1 pseudogene 6 (COX6B1P6)

Target
COX6B1P6
Molecular classification
Processed pseudogene

Overview

Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6B1 pseudogene 6 (COX6B1P6) is a processed, noncoding pseudogene in the human genome. It arose from the retrotransposition of the mRNA encoding the functional cytochrome c oxidase subunit VIb-1, acquiring mutations that prevent it from coding a functional protein[1]. Such pseudogenes are evolutionarily related to their parent gene and may serve as a molecular record of gene evolution. While some pseudogenes display regulatory capacity, such as generating noncoding RNAs that modulate parental gene expression or acting as competing endogenous RNAs, there is no published evidence that COX6B1P6 has such roles. It is not considered a drug target, nor do existing data link it to human pathology[1][2][5].

Biological functions

May participate in gene regulation via noncoding RNA mechanisms (potential ceRNA, microRNA sponge, or source of siRNA), but this is generic to pseudogenes and not specifically reported for COX6B1P6
03

Disease associations

No known direct disease association for COX6B1P6; some pseudogenes related to mitochondrial components can modulate susceptibility to certain conditions via recombination or RNA-based regulation, but this has not been demonstrated for COX6B1P6
