Overview

COX6CP14 (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6C pseudogene 14) is classified as a pseudogene—a nonfunctional DNA segment that bears high homology to the functional COX6C gene, which encodes cytochrome c oxidase subunit VIc of the mitochondrial respiratory chain[1][4]. Unlike its functional counterpart COX6C, which is essential in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and apoptosis, COX6CP14 does not produce a protein and is not known to be functionally active[4]. Most pseudogenes, including COX6CP14, are not considered direct therapeutic targets and do not encode a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or related druggable molecule[4][2]. Pseudogenes can in some cases act as regulatory elements or as decoys in RNA networks, and recent research suggests a few pseudogenes may be associated with clinical outcomes when expressed, notably in cancer biology; however, COX6CP14 itself has no specific evidence of such a role[2][4][6]. No interacting drugs, direct molecular function, or established disease associations are known for COX6CP14.
