Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6C pseudogene 16 (COX6CP16) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, related to the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6C gene but contains mutations that prevent it from encoding a functional protein. Like other processed pseudogenes, COX6CP16 lacks introns, may retain sequence homology to its functional counterpart, and is not known to be transcribed or have any direct biological or disease role. There is no evidence it serves as a therapeutic target or interacts with drugs. Its biological significance (if any) would be potentially limited to gene regulation via noncoding RNA, a property that is rare and not demonstrated for this specific pseudogene[2][3].
