COX7CP3, also known as cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7C pseudogene 3, is a human pseudogene related to the COX7C gene on chromosome 5. Pseudogenes like COX7CP3 are derived from functional genes but lack protein-coding and other biological activity. The related functional gene, COX7C, encodes a nuclear-encoded subunit of Complex IV of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, critical for oxidative phosphorylation. COX7CP3, however, does not encode a functional product, is not a known therapeutic target, and has no established disease association, mechanism of action, or drug interaction.
