Cytochrome c pseudogene 11 (CYCSP11, also known as HCP11) is one of 49 identified pseudogenes in the human genome that are homologous to the functional cytochrome c gene (HCS)[1][2]. These pseudogenes lack the ability to code for a functional protein due to disabling mutations, absence of essential introns, and other sequence disruptions[1][2]. They are relics of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are not expressed as functional RNA or protein[1]. CYCSP11 is not known to have any biological or pathological role, is not considered a therapeutic target, and has no associated interacting drugs, mechanisms of action, or biomarker value. Its only established role is as a non-functional sequence in the human genome. These pseudogenes are generally named and numbered (e.g., HCP1–HCP49) based on their chromosomal locations[1]. There is no evidence that CYCSP11 or the other cytochrome c pseudogenes are expressed or functional nor are they implicated in diseases or therapeutic responses[1][2]. The nomenclature "HCP11" originates from systematic characterization of cytochrome c pseudogenes; the functional gene is designated HCS[1].
