Cytochrome c pseudogene 20 (CYCSP20, also named HCP20) is one of 49 identified processed pseudogenes in the human genome that share sequence similarity with the functional cytochrome c (CYCS) gene. Pseudogenes in this family (HCP1–HCP49) are the result of gene duplication and retrotransposition events and do not contain the intronic structure found in the functional gene. CYCSP20 resides at a specific chromosomal locus but does not encode a functional protein and has no evidence of expression. It is not considered a drug target, receptor, enzyme, or biomarker, nor does it have a direct role in known disease processes.
