Overview

Cytochrome c pseudogene 4 (CYCSP4/HCP4) is a non-functional, truncated processed pseudogene located at chromosome 1q32.1. Like other processed pseudogenes, it resulted from the retrotransposition of CYCS mRNA and lacks introns and expression evidence. It is truncated before residue 13 and shares partial DNA sequence homology with the functional cytochrome c gene, but contains mutations and lacks expression, so it does not produce a functional protein[1][3][5]. Pseudogenes like CYCSP4 may occasionally have indirect regulatory effects at the RNA level in some cases, but there is no evidence that CYCSP4 is expressed or has disease relevance or targetability. In summary: CYCS pseudogene 4 (CYCSP4/HCP4) is not a protein, receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target, but rather a truncated, non-functional processed pseudogene of the cytochrome c gene, lacking known biological or therapeutic function, drug interactions, and biomarker roles[1][3][5][6].
