Overview

CYCSP45 (Cytochrome c pseudogene 45), also known as HCP45, is one of at least 49 pseudogenes in the human genome related to the cytochrome c gene (CYCS)[4][5]. These pseudogenes, including CYCSP45, are nonfunctional genomic DNA sequences that resemble the functional CYCS gene but have accumulated mutations that prevent them from encoding active cytochrome c protein[4][5]. Such pseudogenes typically result from retrotransposition events, and most are not expressed, do not produce protein, and have no known active biological or disease-related role in humans[4][5]. There is no evidence or literature indicating that CYCSP45 is a therapeutic target, a disease-linked gene, a receptor, enzyme, or otherwise involved in drug response or safety considerations. The alternative name HCP45 reflects its historical annotation in some genomic databases or sequence alignments[5].
