These pseudogenes share high sequence similarity to the functional gene but lack introns, show various disablements in the coding region (such as frameshifts and stop codons), and are not transcribed or translated into functional protein[1][2]. They are spread across the genome and serve as a record of the evolutionary history of cytochrome c in humans but possess no known biological function and are not considered therapeutic or diagnostic targets[1][2].
