Cytochrome P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. It functions as a monooxygenase and plays a crucial role in phase I metabolism, catalyzing the oxidative biotransformation of both endogenous compounds and xenobiotics, including many clinically important drugs. It is predominantly expressed in the liver, and genetic polymorphisms influence enzyme activity, leading to interindividual variability in drug response.
