Cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily C member 56, pseudogene (CYP2C56P)

Target
CYP2C56P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, related to Enzyme (cytochrome P450 family)
01

Overview

CYP2C56P is a non-functional pseudogene belonging to the human cytochrome P450 superfamily, specifically to the family 2, subfamily C. It does not code for an active enzyme, and thus has no established biological or pharmacological function[7][2]. The larger CYP2C family encodes enzymes that metabolize drugs and endogenous compounds, but pseudogenes like CYP2C56P have accumulated mutations or structural alterations rendering them incapable of producing functional proteins[2][7]. While some pseudogenes may regulate other genes via RNA-based mechanisms, there is no specific evidence that CYP2C56P plays such a role[7][2][4].
