Overview

Cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily D member 8 pseudogene (CYP2D8P) is a human pseudogene, part of the CYP2D gene cluster located on chromosome 22, along with the active drug-metabolizing gene CYP2D6 and the related pseudogene CYP2D7P. CYP2D8P is nonfunctional in humans due to frameshift and nonsense mutations that arose after divergence from other primates; there is no evidence of mRNA expression or protein product in humans[1][4]. While functional CYP2D8 orthologs exist and are enzymatically active in other primates, human CYP2D8P no longer encodes a functional cytochrome P450 enzyme and does not contribute to drug metabolism. It does not serve as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease gene, and has no known drug interactions or biological functions[1][2][4].\n\nKey points on correctness and utility as a drug target:\n- The gene is a **pseudogene** in humans, confirmed as nonfunctional by the absence of transcripts and presence of inactivating mutations[1][4].\n- It is not considered an enzyme, transporter, or receptor and thus **not a therapeutic target**.\n- The \"ccytochrome\" in the original name is a typographical error; the proper form is \"cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily D member 8 pseudogene\"[4].\n- There is **no evidence for any associated disease, function, or safety concern** in humans[1][2][3][4].
