Cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily G member 1, pseudogene (CYP2G1P)

Target
CYP2G1P
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene), oxidoreductase (family), monooxygenase (family, but not functional here)
01

Overview

Cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily G member 1, pseudogene (CYP2G1P), is a non-functional pseudogene in humans and part of the larger cytochrome P450 family, members of which encode monooxygenase enzymes involved in metabolism of drugs, steroids, and other substrates. CYP2G1P does not encode a functional enzyme, but some studies indicate that pseudogenes like CYP2G1P can be differentially expressed in disease tissues, such as being downregulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma compared to adjacent normal tissue, and may play a role in tumorigenesis via regulation of related pathways or gene expression at the RNA level. No drugs are known to target this pseudogene, and it is not considered a therapeutic target

02

Mechanism of action

None (not a therapeutic target due to pseudogene status)

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogene; no established biological protein function)though as a member of CYP pseudogenes, it may have regulatory RNA roles
04

Disease associations

Other (Not directly implicated as a protein-coding gene or target)expression differences noted in cancer such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma, where it is down-regulated
05

Biomarkers

None establishedbut differential expression in cancer tissue has been observed
