It belongs to the cytochrome P450 gene superfamily, which includes genes encoding enzymes involved in the metabolism of various compounds, but CYP3A137P itself does not encode a functional enzyme. It shares sequence similarity with other members of CYP3A, such as CYP3A43, but due to its pseudogene status, it has lost protein-coding capacity and does not contribute to drug metabolism or endogenous biochemical pathways. No direct biological or pathological role is described for this pseudogene.
