CYP4V2 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of monooxygenases. It is involved in the omega-hydroxylation of fatty acids, particularly in ocular tissues, and plays a role in lipid metabolism. Mutations in CYP4V2 cause Bietti crystalline dystrophy, a retinal degenerative disease. It acts as a selective omega-hydroxylase for saturated medium-chain fatty acids with high catalytic efficiency toward myristic acid.
HET0016 is a nanomolar inhibitor specific for CYP4V2, inhibiting its omega-hydroxylation activity.
