Cytochrome P450 family 4 subfamily Z member 2, pseudogene (CYP4Z2P) is a human pseudogene and does not code for a functional protein. It is homologous to cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are a large superfamily of heme-containing monooxygenases involved in drug metabolism, steroid synthesis, and other oxidative metabolic processes, but CYP4Z2P specifically is an inactive pseudogene[5][7][11]. It does not encode an enzymatically active protein and is not a receptor, enzyme, or direct therapeutic target. However, emerging evidence suggests that some pseudogenes, including CYP4Z2P, may influence cancer biology at the RNA level, notably in breast cancer by acting as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) and affecting the behavior of its parental gene CYP4Z1, with anti-apoptotic and potential oncogenic roles[4]. Despite this, CYP4Z2P is not the subject of direct drug development, is not targeted by any known drug, and has no known protein product or associated safety concerns as a therapeutic target. Rather, it may serve as a biomarker or regulatory RNA relevant for cancer biology and patient subgroup identification[4].
