Cytochrome P450 family 51 subfamily A member 1 pseudogene 3 (CYP51A1P3) is a human pseudogene: a nonfunctional DNA sequence similar to the active CYP51A1 gene, which encodes sterol 14-demethylase, a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of sterols. CYP51A1P3 is annotated in genomic databases as lacking protein-coding ability and has no known biological function or role in drug targeting. Pseudogenes, while typically noncoding and nonfunctional, can occasionally regulate their functional counterparts at the RNA level, for example acting as miRNA decoys or through generation of siRNAs, but there is no established evidence for such activity for CYP51A1P3. It is not considered a clinical or pharmacological target and has no known impact on human disease or therapy.
