Cytokines involved in inflammation modulation comprise a diverse family of secreted proteins—including interleukins, tumor necrosis factors, interferons, chemokines, and growth factors—that coordinate immune cell signaling and control both the induction and resolution of inflammation. Pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α, IFN-γ) drive immune activation, fever, and tissue response to infection or injury, while anti-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-10, IL-4, TGF-β) counteract these processes to prevent excessive damage and to promote tissue repair.
