Cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant 3 (CINC-3), also known as rat Macrophage Inflammatory Protein-2 (MIP-2), is a member of the CXC chemokine family and a potent mediator of the inflammatory response [1]. It is primarily produced by macrophages, monocytes, and epithelial cells in response to inflammatory stimuli such as lipopolysaccharides or other cytokines like IL-1 and TNF-alpha [2]. CINC-3 functions by binding with high affinity to the CXCR2 receptor, triggering the migration and activation of neutrophils to the site of injury or infection [3]. In various disease models, particularly in rats, elevated levels of CINC-3 are associated with conditions like acute lung injury, arthritis, and ischemia-reperfusion injury [4]. While CINC-3 itself is a ligand, it is considered a therapeutic target for neutralizing antibodies designed to mitigate excessive neutrophil-mediated tissue damage [5].
