Cytokine-mediated inflammation refers to the process by which cytokines—small signaling proteins secreted primarily by immune cells—initiate, regulate, and sustain inflammatory responses in the body. These cytokines act as chemical messengers that coordinate immune cell activity, direct tissue repair, and defend against pathogens or injury.
