Overview
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) antigens are molecular components derived from the human cytomegalovirus. They are used primarily for diagnostic purposes to detect immune responses or viral presence. Key antigens include glycoprotein B (gB), essential for viral entry. CMV antigens are detected via immunoassays to identify anti-CMV antibodies or T cell responses. While not directly a therapeutic target, detection of these antigens is vital for managing CMV infection, especially in immunocompromised patients and newborns.
