Overview

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) antigens are viral proteins and glycoproteins expressed during the replication cycle of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). These antigens are critical for viral structure, replication, immune evasion, and pathogenesis. They serve as targets for both humoral and cellular immune responses and are used extensively in diagnostic assays. Key examples include pp150, pp65, pp52, gB and US2, each playing distinct roles in viral infection and host-pathogen interactions. Some antigens like US2 actively downregulate MHC I presentation to evade immune detection.
