Overview
The Cytomegalovirus Immediate Early 1 (IE1) antigen is a major nuclear regulatory phosphoprotein encoded by human cytomegalovirus (hCMV). It is one of the first viral proteins expressed upon infection and plays critical roles in both viral replication and modulation of host cell responses. IE1 acts as a promiscuous regulator of both viral and cellular transcription, essential for initiating early gene expression and disrupting host antiviral defenses.
