Cytomegalovirus pp65 protein (pp65)

Target
pp65
Molecular classification
Viral Protein, Tegument Protein, Herpesviridae pp65 family
01

Overview

The cytomegalovirus pp65 protein (UL83) is a major structural and tegument protein of Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). It plays critical roles in immune evasion by inhibiting interferon responses, tegument assembly during virion morphogenesis, and transactivation of viral genes. pp65 is a major target for cellular and humoral immune responses and is widely used in diagnostic assays. While dispensable for replication in fibroblasts, it is essential for efficient growth in monocyte-derived macrophages. Targeting pp65 is an area of focus for developing immunotherapies and antiviral strategies against HCMV.
